A new year, oh the possibilities. Do you love it? Or maybe it weighs you down because the thought of not accomplishing a “resolution” or goal has left a bad taste?
How about intentions? Perhaps a gentler way to guide your year without any specific goal in mind, but presence. This sits more gracefully with me. My phrase of intention for 2020 is to “Hold Space”. To literally let space be for whatever may come - for people, for opportunities, for rest, for adventure, for spontaneity, even for messiness. I confess, I don’t easily hold space - I like to feel control and enjoy efficiency and productivity. So, opportunities are sometimes missed and resentment can creep in and perfectionism can become my end goal. I expect (hope?) I am not alone in this.
I wonder if maybe you have done a 30 day challenge, perhaps to kick off a new year? I’ve done them and enjoyed learning something new, growing along the way in knowledge. But I also can feel weighed down by something I have to DO each day. Even if the purpose is to build a habit. I’m a DOER. Cross it off-er. So I’ve been rolling around in my head what it looks like to hold space for growth, for a journey to simplicity that may not have an obvious “end” and checkmarks. My faith guides my intentions and priorities, so I have constantly settling into the realization that we can always make progress and grow, and we are also never done, AND we can be okay with that.
These sentiments have lead to to my “Make Room for Joy” challenge in 2020.
A challenge for myself, but also something that I hope you’ll join me in. I curated 12 months of themes, and 10 steps to consider each month. I’ll offer my own perspective, journey, encouragement, as well as #protips from my organizing background and experience as a wife + mom. I’d also love to answer your questions along the way. And remind us that even we all have full lives, we can feel empowered to shift, to make room for the joy - a gift.
You can download the full year of themes, as well as the top 10 lists for January and February here. Follow me on Instagram and Facebook for specific updates throughout. If you don’t have space to tackle a particular item, feel freedom to skip it. If you do make a shift, please share with the hashtag #makeroomforjoy. I know it would be such an encouragement to me and others.
Wishing you room to see the JOY in 2020, friends, with confidence to learn and grow in the process.
