“Use it up, wear it out, make do or do without.”

How many rooms are you staring at more often, wishing you could make updates to better serve your purposes? This season we are in, at least for me, is an exercise in contentment and gratitude.
I remember during seasons of job transition we have had to be very creative with our budget and our menu. It became a game for my creative hubs to look at what we had in the freezer and pantry and make something delicious out of a bag of white rice. I feel a little bit like that now regarding house projects - what can we switch up or cross of the list using what we have.
This coat closet project is one I did about a year ago. I wanted to try a wall treatment that was low risk as I think about other future projects like our foyer and bathrooms. A closet is a low-risk spot to test out your ideas! I cleared everything out and painted the interior of the closet with paint I had on hand. I used a gold finishing paint and a stencil I had in the craft stash (which my daughter helped to pick out) and applied the stencil randomly (my prefered approach) to the entire space.
While I’m not sure I would take the same approach to a more exposed space, I love opening my coat closet now. Think about what small projects you can tackle if you are at home more than usual, just as a creative exercise. We have update our mailbox, painted a checkerboard on an existing outdoor end table, Organized the books and craft supplies, sorted the nails + screws + nuts + bolts and reinstituted our toy rotation system. There is no agenda or deadline, just moving forward one step at a time.
