I loved meeting this family in early 2019, ready for some changes after making some well-loved furniture work for years raising children. A recent listen to a TED talk by Ingrid Fettell Lee, author of the book JOYFUL, inspired her to really think about how she wanted her home to feel - pulled together, uncluttered, yet whimsical and full of JOY (speaking my language)! Following an in person consultation, I put together an action plan that helped with editing, layout and some simple shifts using items they already had. We discussed color, texture, layout and art. I love the DIY progress they have made!

AFTER ENTRY
This room was all about “musical chairs”. After minimizing the smaller furniture, we pulled in art + one sofa from the living room. Some pops of color pillows make for a cheerful and welcoming space!

Soft texture through curtains, clearing surfaces, swapping art in from the entry, and symmetrical and colorful bedside lamps create a calm space for guests.

Editing out some of the furniture in favor of smaller pieces they already owned makes the space feel so much brighter and open. Removing the console table highlights the beloved items in their gallery wall.
If you need a change, beginning with a little room cleanse - move some furniture out to let it breathe and see how it feels. Try something from another room in your home. You may be surprised with how these subtle shifts can be all your space needs.
